Mr. Josef Watfah has been appointed a Consultant in General, Laparoscopic and Emergency surgery with a special interest in colorectal surgery in August 2014 at Northwick Park/St Marks Hospital.
In 2010/2011 he was awarded a fellowship to work at the prestigious St.Marks hospital, where he worked for Prof. Robin Phillips and gained significant experience in fistula surgery and then continued working for Miss Carolynne Vaizey and Mr Janindra Warusavitarne, who have their interest in intestinal failure surgery and IBD surgery respectively.
Mr. Watfah qualified and fully trained in open and laparoscopic General Surgery in Austria and worked as a Consultant in the Colorectal Unit at the Paracelsus University Hospital in Salzburg, Austria before his substantive appointment in London.
Mr. Watfah is a specialist the general surgery, ranging from Hernia surgery for inguinal hernia to large incisional hernias. He is fully trained to deal with gallbladder conditions and conditions of the anus, like anal fistula, haemorrhoids, and anal fissures.
As he deals with major abdominal emergencies in his NHS practice, he experienced in dealing with parastomal hernias and stoma reversals, like Hartmann's reversals after an emergency sigmoid colectomy.
Mr. Watfah is actively involved in teaching. He is an examiner on PACES (Final year student exams), a Core Trainee Interview Panel Member and CCrISP (Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patients) course faculty member, Educational and Clinical Supervisor for junior trainees, and is also a trainer by the GMC (General Medical Council). He is actively involved in clinical governance
He is the clinical lead for SAU (the surgical assessment unit) and Surgical Clinical Governance at Northwick Park Hospital and the local lead for nationwide trials (currently the DAMASCUS trial of diverticulitis treatment).
Currently, he is also the Honorary Secretary of the Section of Surgery at the RSM - Royal Society of Medicine, where is he part of the Council of the Section and involved in creating and planning the educational meetings and webinars.
