Dr Kalpa De Silva is a highly regarded Consultant Interventional Cardiologist practicing in London. Experienced in a wide range of general and interventional cardiology conditions, Dr De Silva’s areas of specialties include Coronary Heart Disease, Chest Pain, Angina, Heart Attack, Coronary Angiography, and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)/Stent Implantation.
Dr De Silva earned his initial medical degree at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Medical School in 2004. Following this, he undertook general and interventional cardiology training in various hospitals in the capital and gained further experience by completing an international coronary fellowship in Sydney, Australia. Whilst training, he was awarded two research fellowships from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Heart Research UK (HRUK) to complete a research degree. In 2014, he was subsequently awarded a PhD in coronary physiology at King’s College London. Thanks to his research, he was nominated for the American College of Cardiology (ACC)’s Young Investigator Award.
Dr De Silva sees patients at St. Thomas's Hospital, which is his NHS base. Privately, he sees patients at One Heart Clinic in Harley Street, London Bridge Hospital, and Spire St Anthony’s Hospital in Surrey. He is an expert in managing Coronary Artery Disease, caring for patients with Chest Pain, Angina, and patients who have suffered Heart Attacks. He is skilled in coronary angiography and minimally invasive percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), particularly in high-risk and complex cases. Dr De Silva aims to optimise patients’ outcomes using physiology and imaging modalities to guide management.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr De Silva is actively involved in research in cardiovascular medicine. Previously, he was appointed an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. His research interests include novel imaging techniques in the management of coronary artery disease and heart attacks. and the use of mechanical circulatory support in high-risk, complex patients. He has published over 50-peer reviewed articles and has contributed to several books on numerous cardiology topics. He is frequently invited to speak or be on panels discussions
