Dr Saqib Chowdhary, Consultant Cardiologist and Coronary Intervention Specialist, is based at Wythenshawe Hospital, in Manchester. He specialises in a wide range of general cardiology issues like angina, hypertension, and heart failure with a specific interest in coronary angioplasty and TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation). He is highly skilled in performing complex procedures like radial access procedures, chronic total occlusions (CTO), the use of intra-coronary imaging (IVUS and OCT) to improve outcomes from stenting, and transcutaneous septal ablation for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
He began his medical education at St Thomas's where he graduated in Medicine. He also received training in cardiology and coronary intervention at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust, Walsgrave Hospital, and abroad in Toronto. He was later awarded a PhD for his work in medicine and a year later was awarded the prize of Young Investigator of the Year by the British Cardiac Society. He was given a prestigious fellowship at Toronto General and Mount Sinai Hospitals.
He Has an extensive research past, with numerous publications on nitric oxide, cardiac autonomic dysfunction, and heart failure. He continues to contribute to medical education working as a clinical SpR and as a Clinical Lecturer.
