Consultant Gynaecologist Ms Bim Williams has a subspecialty interest in Urogynaecology. She has been based at the Royal Bolton Hospital since September 2006 and is the lead consultant for the Urogynaecology service.
Her clinical expertise is in the following areas:
Ms Williams gained her medical qualification from the University College Hospital, Ibadan in 1991 before undertaking postgraduate training in the West Midlands and NorthWest Deaneries. She was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2006 and obtained membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1998. In 2016, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She spent two years as a research fellow in the Urogynaecology unit of the Liverpool Women's Hospital, carrying out research into reducing postpartum anal sphincter trauma.
She remains interested in medical education and training and is an honorary senior lecturer and academic advisor at the University of Manchester Medical School. She is also a member of the examination and guideline committees of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
She continues to maintain her research interest in pelvic floor dysfunction and presents at both national and international meetings. She has published widely in the field and is a co-author of the RCOG green top clinical guideline on the management of third and fourth degree perineal tears. Additionally, she is a principal investigator for the PROSPECT and VUE clinical trials evaluating prolapse repair surgery.
Ms Williams is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and a member of the International Urogynaecology Association, the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and the North of England Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society.
