Dr. Aidan Cole is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with expertise in the treatment of prostate cancer, ranging from early-stage disease to advanced metastatic cases. Initial consultations are designed to help patients make important decisions about treatment interventions for their prostate cancer. This includes discussions about timings of treatment, active surveillance, surgery, radiotherapy, brachytherapy and hormone therapy. Treatments such as gold marker insertion (fiducials) to guide accuracy of radiotherapy and gels (to separate prostate from rectum) to reduce side effects from radiotherapy are available.
Dr. Cole is actively involved in academic research at Queen’s University Belfast, focusing on enhancing treatments for prostate cancer patients through research initiatives and clinical trials. Dr. Cole has received his training primarily in Belfast. In addition to his clinical work, he is also deeply committed to medical education, he currently serves as the Module Lead for Cancer Studies Training for medical undergraduates in Belfast.
In addition to his local training, Dr. Cole completed an extensive Advanced Radiotherapy Fellowship at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. He holds the position of Clinical Advisor to the Steering Committee of the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry.
Dr. Cole's qualifications include an MB BCH BAO from Queen’s University Belfast, and a Diploma in Oncology from the Institute of Cancer Research. He later obtained a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast, and a PGCE in Clinical Education from the same institution. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists of London (FRCR) since 2015, and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (MRCP) since 2007.
