Your way to recovery:
After your liver transplant operation, you should plan to stay close to the hospital. You'll need to return to the clinic frequently for post-transplant surgery care. Your transplant team will notify you when you are ready to return home.
Most people are hospitalized for seven to ten days following a liver transplant. Immediately following surgery, you will begin taking anti-rejection drugs. Patients in our transplant program usually need to take at least one anti-rejection drug for the remainder of their lives.
How to prevent liver rejection after a transplant?
The initial few months following liver transplant surgery are the most dangerous for infection or liver rejection. You will begin taking medicine to suppress your body's immune system as soon as you recover from liver transplant surgery. Your body will perceive the replacement liver as a threat and will launch natural defenses to reject the organ (liver). These immunosuppressive medications reduce your body's "fight or flight" reaction, allowing the new liver to function properly.
You will be taking the anti-rejection medications you were given in the hospital for the rest of your life. Your doctor will constantly check and adjust your response.

Support and aftercare at home:
When you go home from your liver transplant, you should start doing muscle-toning exercises and walking for 5 to 10 minutes every day. To improve overall recuperation, gradually increase the time each week.
Ask for any medical help from your hospital up to three weeks after your discharge.
They examine your medications, vital signs, incisions, and drains, as well as any symptoms of infection. Depending on your condition, you may need to see the nurse daily or three times each week. Home visits will continue until you are able to care for yourself.
