Mr Anestis Iossifidis trained at the University of Montpelier, France, for his medical degree. This means he is a surgeon, but also a medically qualified doctor, giving him an excellent understanding of the patient as a whole. With an international background, Mr Iossifidis is Greek and a fluent speaker in French.
He has been able to utilise and enhance some of his early years training, with his ability to build relationships and communicate as the clinical lead at the Croydon University Hospital. He leads a team of surgeons and mentors them through trauma and elective surgery.
Continuing his training at the North Norwich/ Cambridge area, he was able to further hone and specialise in his interest in orthopaedic surgery and ultimately in upper limb surgery. He was subsequently selected through competitive entry to Guys and St Thomas' and the high surgical training rotation there, where he stayed as Senior registrar. Throughout this time, he was mentored by the key host Orthopaedic Surgeons at these hospitals by Professor Fred Heatley, who has been one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons in the UK.
After his specialist training in upper limb surgery, he sub-specialised and did fellowship training, which took him through the South-East of England including London, as well as travelling internationally to New York. He felt that this was an important opportunity to further consolidate and enhance his international background and coordinate the different aspects of shoulder surgery allowing him to be a specialist in this area.
Mr Iossifidis is well recognised in the international scientific literature as well as locally where he is involved heavily with teaching and training. As a Consultant Shoulder surgeon since 1997 in Croydon, he developed a shoulder surgical practice and introduced arthroscopic (keyhole) shoulder surgery. Most of his shoulder surgery has been performed in day surgery since 2005.
