Professor Martyn Caplin, Professor of Gastroenterology and Tumour Neuroendocrinology, is based at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London.

Professor Caplin leads the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society Centre of Excellence at the Royal Free Hospital and leads scientific and clinical research into these cancers at University College London. Between 2014 and 2016, he served as Chairman of the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society and currently sits on the advisory board. He is also a founder and past Chairman of the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society, and he was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his clinical leadership and research in the field of rare cancers.
Additionally, he was a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and a past chairman of the rare cancer group. Presently, he is the Chairman of the European Union Reference Network for Rare Cancers Neuroendocrine Tumor Group. He has also been the clinical lead for "NHS Evidence" for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases (under the auspices of NICE).
Professor Caplin is particularly interested in nutrition and disease, and he has published on the evidence base for the impact of diet and food supplements on disease. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications, and a number of book chapters, and has been co-author of two books. He delivers national and international seminars on a regular basis.
