Mr Hickley is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital specializing in oculoplastic surgery, lacrimal surgery and cataract surgery. He is also the clinical lead for Emergency Ophthalmology. He has a private practice at the Eye Correction Centre in Tarporley, Cheshire and Bangor, North Wales. He also has a private practice at Spire Cheshire and HCA Wilmslow.
Mr Hickley graduated from The University of Leeds Medical School in 2009 and worked as a house officer in Yorkshire before working in Cairns, Australia. He then returned to the United Kingdom where he began his ophthalmology registrar training in the Mersey region. He worked at the world-famous St Paul's Eye Hospital in Liverpool, as well as the Alder Hey Children's Hospital. He subsequently completed a year-long fellowship within training at Manchester Eye Hospital which focused on oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. Following this, he undertook an 18-month fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Hickley also studied fine art at A-level and achieved the highest grade in his year. He remains a keen artist today and also believes that his artistic background has served as an important foundation block to his career as a surgeon.
