Rajendra Achyut Badwe, born in Mumbai in 1956, was a bright student and won the Athalye Medal for Maths.
He chose medicine, studied with the Dorab Tata Scholarship and graduated in medicine (MBBS) in 1978. After post graduation with an MS in general surgery from Bombay University, he worked in many esteemed institutions.
Dr. Badwe joined Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai as Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology. He was a Fellow of the International Society for Diseases of the Oesophagus in 1989, worked in Tokyo, and moved to London till 1992.
He is currently the Director of Tata Memorial Centre.
