Dr Taher Mahmud is Clinical Lead for Osteoporosis and Consultant Rheumatology and Co-Founder of London Osteoporosis Clinic.
He studied at King's College London and trained in General Medicine at King's College, St Thomas' and Pembury Hospitals. Dr Mahmud was also an Honorary Consultant at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath.
Dr Mahmud believes in preventive medicine and having personally experienced how the effects of osteoporosis can impact an individual's life (that of his Mother), he appreciates the importance of applying a more passionate and holistic approach to the care of his patients.
He has supported and launched several campaigns which aim to raise awareness about the influence and dangers of keeping osteoporosis hidden.
His medical interests include treatments of osteoporosis, patient feedback and mechanisms of drug side effects.
Dr Mahmud launched The London Osteoporosis Clinic, which is the first clinic entirely dedicated to early and post-fracture screening, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.
London Osteoporosis Clinic uses the latest evidenced-based NICE-approved drugs and complementary non-drug treatments. Their aspiration is to work with patients, wider healthcare communities, voluntary sector and business enterprises to eradicate osteoporosis-related fractures.
On a more personal level, Dr Mahmud has an interest in the arts and enjoys sports, tennis and running. He was previously Trustee of Great causes, a charity raising funds for cataract operations in the developing world.
