Mr Rod Alexander is a highly skilled and experienced surgeon who trained at the University of Southampton Medical School, graduating with honours in 2001. He has completed specialist General and Colorectal surgical training in Wessex and the South West Thames Deaneries, including rectal cancer surgery (TME) at Basingstoke Hospital and Laparoscopic Colorectal surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Before he began working at Great Western Hospital, he was awarded the coveted Ethicon Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship at Frimley Park Hospital, by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. During his time at Frimley, he refined his experience and expertise in different aspects of laparoscopic colorectal surgery, robotic surgery for rectal cancer, and trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS/TEO).
He is now the clinical lead for the TEO service that he started at Great Western Hospital, the clinical lead for the Robotic Surgical Programme he started at GWH and the clincial lead for the Emergency Surgical Service at GWH.
He was awarded an MSc in Leadership and Management, and has been published widely on topics related to his surgical interests of key hole surgery (the Laparoscopic Approach), gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery (including laparoscopic hernia repairs), colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, all aspects of proctology: fissures, haemorrhoid surgery including Haemorrhoid artery ligation (THD), Fistulae faecal incontinence and prolapse.
