Dr Steven Hurel received his medical degree from Southampton University. From there he went on to gain valuable experience working in Northwick Park Hospital in London. Dr Hurel completed his specialist training in hospitals in the North East; it was there he developed an interest for Endocrinology and was awarded a PhD after completing research investigating the role of insulin signalling in muscles.
Dr Hurel is currently a Consultant Endocrinologist working at the prestigious University College Hospital in central London where he acts as Divisional Clinical Director for Medical Specialities and Outpatient Departments at UCLH. In his role as Clinical Director, Dr Hurel is responsible for overseeing the management of patients with a range of Endocrinology disorders. His specialist interest lies in the treatment of diabetes and thyroid disorders.
As well as having an established clinical practice Dr Hurel is active within clinical research, making a significant contribution to the field of Endocrinology. His current research interests include the development of non-invasive methods of monitoring endocrine disorders amongst others.
In 2013, Dr Hurel was recognised as one of the top 250 consultants in the country by Tatler magazine, in part due to his ability to motivate and empower his patients.
